Jennifer Charlton is part of the kglobal team supporting communication planning for the U.S. Navy Chief of Information. She is a strategic communications professional with experience in both the private and public sector. Her career spans communication planning, media analysis, creative advertising, and social media strategy development and execution.
Prior to joining kglobal, Jennifer spent five years working in Public Diplomacy at the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York. She was hired by the Swiss government in 2012 to launch a social media and digital strategy for the Consulate, as part of an e-diplomacy pilot project from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. She successfully launched the Consulate’s digital presence across numerous social media platforms, created communication strategies and digital guidelines, and trained Swiss diplomats on the use of social media. In addition, she managed events, conducted media relations and engaged in other forms of communication outreach on behalf of the Consulate. Jennifer started her career at a creative advertising agency in New York City and also worked in strategic communications at a social media analytics startup in San Francisco. She received her degree in Advertising & Marketing Communications from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.
One last thing… Jennifer is the founder of the New York Digital Diplomacy Meetup and currently sits on the Washington, DC leadership team of the Digital Diplomacy Coalition (DDC). She regularly meets with governments, the international affairs community, and tech companies to discuss how innovative technologies can be used to support public diplomacy efforts and strategic public affairs. She has organized workshops and events with speakers from Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Google and has been a speaker on the topic of Digital Diplomacy at SXSW, the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York, the Social Media Summit NYC and the Social Media Analytics Summit Miami.
